I’m from Waterhouse, an inner city in Kingston, where girls like me couldn’t dream due to lack of resources. I lived in a tenement yard, focused on surviving, not dreaming. It wasn’t until I left high school, got a scholarship, and went to the 2007 world championship in Osaka at 20 as a reserve that I decided to work hard and give myself the opportunity to dream.

Fraser-Pryce’s experience at the championship inspired her to pursue her potential. She witnessed athletes’ raw emotions, marking the start of her purpose-driven leadership journey.

Paying It Forward: The Pocket Rocket Foundation

Zalis highlighted Fraser-Pryce’s commitment to giving back through her Pocket Rocket Foundation, which supports young student-athletes. Fraser-Pryce explained how her foundation provides resources and guidance, reflecting her belief in purpose-driven leadership to empower the next generation.

The Pocket Rocket Foundation was born out of my experience lacking guidance in high school. It’s about giving young girls the opportunity to dream. We support 50 student-athletes with tuition, mental wellness, and education, creating strong individuals who understand their worth, inspired by Jean Cole, who saw my potential before I did.

Fraser-Pryce discussed her role as a mother, teaching her competitive 7-year-old son balance and passion in sports. The lesson was rooted in her own journey of resilience and purpose-driven leadership.
